How does a hotel achieve EarthCheck certification?

• Step 1 : the hotel registers on a voluntary basis,
• Step 2 : EarthCheck monitors and assesses the hotel’s performances in * areas (implementation of a sustainable development policy, water consumption, energy consumption, waste management, paper consumption, pesticide use, cleaning and hygiene product use, local community involvement),
• Step 3 : based on the performance assessment, the hotel implements a plan of action and practical measures to improve its weak points and achieve the goals set by EarthCheck,
• Step 4 :assuming these steps lead to an improvement in the hotel’s performance and meet the EarthCheck requirements, the hotel is certified by external, independent auditors.

NB: the EarthCheck certification is not permanent and can be withdrawn if the hotel does not continue its efforts on a permanent basis (audits are carried out every two years).
