Pau: the cradle of French golf

Pau: the cradle of French golf

Pau is at the foot of the Pyrenees and has long been a golfing city, as it was one of the first in France to welcome this sport from across the channel. For golf lovers the Novotel Pau Lescar hotel is an ideal pied-a-terre. It’s located halfway between the region’s top two golfing destinations, the Pau Golf Club 1856 and the Golf Blue Green Pau Artiguelouve.

Le Pau Golf Club 1856
This highly reputed club is just a 10-minute drive from your hotel. It’s one of the oldest on the Continent and was founded in 1856 by s group of Scotsmen. It played an integral part in bringing golf to France. The flat terrain of the Billère area at the gateway to Pau has a classic 18-hole course which is well-known for its technical complexity. Once you’ve tested your skills on the green, head for the clubhouse. This is an elegant, Victorian-style building dating back to the 19th century and its atmosphere is still imbued with British tradition. It still has multiple historic objects which testify to its rich past.
Le Golf Blue Green Pau Artiguelouve
It takes less than 10 minutes to drive to the Golf Blue Green Pau Artiguelouve from your hotel. Its 18-hole course winds between a wooded area and a large section of flatland dotted with palm trees, making it ideal for hitting your best long shots with the Pyrenees in the background. The Golf de Pau Artiguelouve also has training facilities for beginners and more experienced players, with a special practice area including a driving range, putting green, a compact course and a training bunker.
