The Sistine Chapel
It took Michelangelo four years to paint the marvellous ceiling of the famous Sistine Chapel. At the heart of the Vatican, it will have the whole family gasping at beautifully painted scenes from the Bible: the creation of the sun, the moon, Adam and Eve, the separation of waters from the land, darkness from light, original sin,…it’s like watching a giant cartoon! The Vatican also has many other areas that children love, such as the map gallery or the beautiful museum of state coaches.

Explora is the first museum in Rome to be entirely geared towards children aged 3 to 12. Here’s one place you really must take the family to. Conveniently located in the charming Trastevere quarter, this garden has over 7,000 species of plants from the whole world to marvel at. Biopark Zoological Garden (Bioparco – Giardino Zoologico di Roma)
Here’s an excellent place for the family to retire to between sightseeing. With full descriptions of each, children will discover the names, characteristics and lifestyle of all the zoo’s inhabitants. There’s also a farm area with traditional farm animals.

As you walk this tree-lined ancient road, probably the best known in Rome, your whole family can enjoy an open-air tour through history. Close by, you can also visit the impressive catacombs and the charming, but not so well-known, Aqueduct Park. Start your walk at the level of San Callisto, where it becomes traffic-free.
