Praag

The « magic city », the « golden city », the « city with a hundred steeples »…Prague proudly rises on both banks of the river Vltava. A land of refuge, the birthplace of Kafka and the home to illustrious men such as Mozart and Einstein, the city is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. This is illustrated by its castle, one of the most impressive fortresses in the world, the Josefov quarter or Charles Bridge, a real open-air museum, the “Paris of the East” as it is also sometimes called, is bright, mysterious, a rebel and discreet…

To discover, to understand, to wonder, and enjoy oneself, to marvel…So many entertaining opportunities to be enjoyed by the WHOLE FAMILY and which can be reached from your hotel in Prague.

Novotel Praha Wenceslas Square

One thousand years were necessary to finish building the magnificent Saint-Guy Cathedral. The beauty of the stained-glass windows is in itself worth a visit.

Like the apostles who at each hour of the day file out of the upper part of the famous astronomical clock, a pageantry of automatons that you must not miss.

It is the height of the Petrin Tower, a copy of the Eiffel Tower. Added to the height of the hill – 318 m – you get the size of the Parisian original!

Kids’voyage’s special treats

Muzeum Miniatur – the Miniatures Museum
Welcome to the world of Anatoly Konenko’s micro-sculptures. Even the youngest will think they are giants when discovering the fantastic creations of this exceptional artist. Admire miniature reproductions of the most famous paintings of Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrant and Dali, a caravan of camels climbing along a needle, a microscopic grass-hopper playing the violin and then the microscopic becomes grandiose! The star of the show: the smallest book in the world which measures 0.9 mm x 0.9 mm and has 30 pages! Fascinating…
Strahovske nadvori 11, Prague 1 – Tel. : (+420) 233 352 371

Národní muzeum – The National Museum
Particularly well organised for a family visit, Prague’s National Museum is an opportunity to discover the history of earth and men, but also that of plants and animals. Prehistory, mineralogy ( the hall of precious stones is one of the finest in the world!), zoology, (impossible to miss the huge mammoth!), palaeontology… the rich collections of this museum make it a place to absolutely visit! For all ages.
Vaclavska namesti 68, Prague 1 – Tel. : (+420) 224 497 111

Gold Lane
You simply must go there when visiting the castle. This small street is a good place for a walk among the tiny and brightly coloured houses. Set against the fortified walls, the small and multicoloured facades create a magical atmosphere. This alley also gives you a chance to follow the steps of Franz Kafka, the famous writer from Prague who lived at n°22, or also to discover a superb exhibition of weapons and suits of armour above the houses. The castle area is open every day from 5 am to Midnight (from April to October) and from 6 am to 11 pm (from November to March).

Muzeum Hracek – the Museum of Toys
This museum has one of the greatest collections in the world and covers 150 years of the history of toys. The whole family are taken back to the days of their childhood when seeing the clever presentations of wooden toys, but also cuddly toys, cars, boats, robots, animals, toy soldiers…A special mention must be made of the unbelievable collection of Barbie dolls! To continue on this journey to the fountain of youth, remember that Prague is also considered to be the capital of puppets. A national theatre and a museum are specifically dedicated to this ancient tradition, as well as many shops.

Narodni Technicke Muzeum – The National Technical Museum
A real treasure cavern, it contains objects that are remarkable because of their technical inventiveness. The huge ground-floor hangar that focuses on transports (superb planes, cars, motorbikes, locomotives, helicopters…) will be great for the young. The other two floors give you a chance to discover clocks, watches, sextons, sun dials, globes… Note that not far from the museum is the oldest carousel in Europe, and it is still going strong!

Cesk Muzeum Hudby – The National Museum of Music
Here is a visit that brings joy to your eyes and ears. The staging of collections – particularly entertaining – is for beginners as much as for experts. Among other things, children can compare the sounds of instruments with the help of tapes. A special mention for the “family” of pianos whose historical evolution is sometimes surprising! And continue this “musical” tour with a detour to the captivating world of the Museum of Music Boxes - Muzeum Hracich Stroju – Do not miss it!

Some good places for a family meal

The Pearl of Prague
On the seventh floor of the astonishing “Dancing House”, also called “Ginger & Fred” as a tribute to the two dancers, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, it is undoubtedly one of the smartest places in Prague. But the magic of the view you get of Prague is worth a visit in itself.
Rasinovo nabrezi 80, Prague – Tél. : (+420) 221 984 160
Open every day, except on Sundays and Monday mornings, until 10.30 pm.

The Children’s Passage
Here is a place that deserves its name! It houses numerous toy shops and also a charming café, decorated with puppets. Just ideal for a “hot chocolate” break, after visiting the famous Divaldo Minor, a theatre close by that has been offering clown and puppet shows for more than half a century.

Zoos, aquariums, parks and gardens

Prague Zoological Park
Africa House, the hall of the big cats, of the gorillas, the great mammals, vivarium, aviary… the wealth of Prague’s zoological park makes it a place that must be seen. The pavilion of the Indonesian jungle is in itself worth a visit, with its gallery which is “in the dark”! Thrills and chills will surely be felt when faces are grazed by the wings of bats coming out of nowhere. A small bonus: the original chair-lift that links the two parts of the zoo gives you a superb view of the city.
U Trojskeho zamku 3/120, Prague 7 – Tel. : (+420) 296 112 111
Open every day from 9 am to 5 pm (March) – 9 am to 6 pm (April, May, September, October) – 9 am to 7 pm (June, July, August) and from 9 am to 4 pm (November, December, January, February).

Kampa Island
Rightly considered to be “the Venice of Prague”, Kampa Island, which can be reached passing under the arches of Charles Bridge, is no doubt one of the most romantic areas in the city. There are beautiful water-mill wheels, among which is Sova, built in the Middle-Ages. This island is a real journey through time and an opportunity for lovely walks along the Vltava.

Petrínske Sady – Petrin Hill
Reached on foot or by means of the funicular railway, it stands above the city and contains ten parks to form the largest green area in Prague. Numerous paths and stairs weave around the hill and give access to numerous interesting things including the panoramic tower, a small replica of the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Mirrors, a maze of strangely shaped mirrors or the Stefanik observatory from which you can look at the stars with the family.
